Through Dinners for Dignity, we want to provide ecosan toilets for 20,000 people in the Cuddalore District of south eastern India. In rural areas we build toilets, sometimes with washing units attached, for individual families. In more cramped urban areas we provide community complexes of ecosan toilets, bathing and washing facilities. We offer similar facilities to both primary and secondary schools.
Sanitation saves children’s lives and creates healthier and richer communities, with people able to spend more time working and less of their income on medicine. As a bonus, ecosan toilets produce compost that increases crop yields without the need to pay for chemical fertilisers. As they work with WTN to improve their lives, and no longer have to squat behind a bush in order to go to the toilet, women in particular feel enhanced self-respect and dignity.
Our experiences of providing ecosan toilets and sustainable water supplies have seen massive improvements in the lives and livelihoods of individuals and communities, and helped many thousands out of poverty.

Project 1
For £230, we can help a family build an ecosan toilet in India. This is an individual ecosan composting toilet with two chambers, so that one chamber can be composting whilst the other is in use. If you commit to fundraising for a single family unit, then we will send you a picture of the family you are supporting.

Project 2
The same as Project 1, but for £300 we can help a family build an ecosan toilet with a family wash room attached. It will include a wash room for personal bathing, as well as an individual Ecosan composting toilet. If you commit to fundraising for a single family unit with wash room, then we will send you a picture of the family you are supporting.

Project 3
We can build a primary school ecosan complex in India, for approximately 120 children. This will have separate boys and girls toilet blocks, each containing one or more ecosan units each set over double composting chambers, plus urinals for the boys and squat urinals for the girls. The school plants a fruit and vegetable garden around the toilet block to take advantage of the fertiliser and compost, to supplement the children’s diet. Please contact us for more details and to adopt a project of this size.

Project 4
Similar to project 3, but a larger version of our primary school ecosan facility, with more stalls and urinals. These may also include sanitary towel dispensers and sanitary towel incinerators in the girl’s section, and separate areas for personal washing. Ecosan in schools make education more attractive and accessible, especially for girls. Please contact us for more details and to adopt a project of this size.

Project 5
A community ecosan complex.
In areas where there is limited space, such as in urban areas and slums, community ecosan are the most efficient way of providing sanitation for larger numbers of people. With separated men’s and women’s areas, each provides ecosan toilets, access to water, personal washing areas and places to do laundry. The community toilet block not only brings dignity, it also energises the community who come together to plan, build and maintain their shared facilities. Please contact us for more details and to adopt a project of this size.

Project 6
A women's ecosan complex.
These units are designed for communities where there are a high percentage of women, or where women are particularly vulnerable through the lack of privacy and safety for their toilet and personal hygiene needs. With the same facilities as the community complexes, these bring women together as a close knit group and by working together, become empowered to develop the self esteem they need to continue working on issues within their communities. Please contact us for more details and to adopt a project of this size.
